Whether you’re looking to get away from it all, or simply experience something new, people are looking for unique places to stay in the UK like never before.
So having recently gotten back from a beautiful weekend away in Dartmouth, where the missus and I stayed in a quaint log cabin in the middle of the woods, before driving down the various seaside towns of Dartmouth, Torcross and Salcombe for a spot of lunch, shopping and a dip in the sea, I thought I’d explain all about this kind of escape.
It actually came about, because my aunt had bought us a gift experience pack which entitled to a few nights stay at a mystery location somewhere in the UK.
We simply chose the location, booked a date and arrived to be pleasantly surprised with what we found. And the rest of the weekend break sorted itself out around the idyllic location of where we were staying.
There were loads of unique places to choose from, including castles and cabins to boats, windmills and other unusual places to relax, chill out and generally escape from it all.
So with this in mind, here are a handful of unique places to stay that may take your fancy.
The African Queen
This is a real treat that will see you having an amazing experience, as this break away will have you staying in a hotel on a boat, which is a converted Dutch barge.
The African Queen will see you staying in a cosy and comfortable cabin while taking a cruise down the Thames River, where you can enjoy a most delicious selection of food while taking in the stunning views.
The Chapel Guest House
Located in Cornwall, this is a beautiful place to stay with its picturesque surroundings and a building that is rich in history.
The Chapel Guest House was built in 1862 and is a converted former Bible Christian Chapel, but offers a modern touch on the inside, as well as being home to a truly stunning garden.
This is a great choice for people who want to experience a stress free and relaxing break where you can escape from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The Windmill in Scarborough offers a very unusual night away indeed; in an 18th Century Grade II listed building this the last remaining windmill in the area.
A truly stunning historic building with a very modern interior, which will appeal to those who wish to simply get away from it all and enjoy the incredible views.
The Old School House
Based in Tillmouth, Northumberland, this hotel was built in 1867 and was once a school and headmaster’s residence.
Now it is a very elegant hotel for you to do as you please, whether you want to enjoy the superb rural settings or even have a personal guided walk within Northumberland and the Borders, its completely up to you.
These are just a few of the huge selection of unusual places to stay, so if these don’t appeal to you, there will be plenty more to choose from.
These types of experiences make great gifts for yourself and someone else to share, or can even work really well as a gift idea for two, perhaps as an anniversary present?
Either way, whoever you buy this gift for, or whoever the lucky person that comes along with you is, this is a very thoughtful gift and will be a great experience for anyone to enjoy.
