Lake District hotel celebrated National Walking Month

Near Windermere is the town of Bowness and a hotel in the town, The Lendeth Howe Country House, have said that they will be celebrating National Walking Month, which is this month, by giving their guests access to the enormous outdoor playground in the area. This is being organised through the Lake District Experiences Package.

Beatrix Potter once owned this hotel and it is a delightful location for a stay away from home. The hotel of also teamed up with Rob Coles, an outdoor activity instructor, who is going to take some of the guests on excellent adventures through the Lake District. The area is perfectly suited for people who just want to go for a gentle hike, or those who are looking to get the adrenaline pumping a bit more.

The packages will be available year-round and provide guests with a unique opportunity to get to know more about the Lake District landscape, under the watchful eye and in the safe hands of an outdoor expert.

Lindeth Howe is an ideal base for anyone wishing to give the country’s Adventure Capital a go, boasting leisure facilities which can soothe away the muscle aches through a dip in the indoor pool, or a good massage in the therapy and treatment rooms.  Its position on a hill overlooking Lake Windermere places it at the heart of the southern Lake District, which offers a variety of locations in which to go walking in the wild.

Heading out for a day with Rob Coles is a fabulous way to punctuate a stay at the welcoming 4-star hotel and an ideal means through which anyone unfamiliar with Lake District terrain or locations can ease themselves into the outdoor action. Rob can tailor activities to suit fitness levels and guests’ wishes, whether that entails walking the fells to bag some spectacular views, or taking them up to the top of mighty Helvellyn via the exhilarating Striding Edge.

A guided day out costs £150 for a full day for two people, or £220 for four. Lindeth Howe has also created an introductory offer, to give guests a taste of the walking and outdoor activities that can be enjoyed, as well as the accommodation and experience that the hotel can provide. This costs £160 per person for one night’s dinner, bed and breakfast, plus a day out walking or engaging in other pursuits with the guidance of Rob Coles. This price is based on two people sharing a room.

The combination of fresh air and calorie burning can soon work up an appetite, which is easily satisfied by a hotel with a 2 AA Rosette dining room and an acclaimed chef, Marc Guibert. Those departing for a day’s activities can be fuelled up by a full Cumbrian breakfast and then return after their exertions to enjoy a five-course dinner served in the award-winning restaurant.

To book one of the special packages involving walking and outdoor activities and tailor this to your specifications, call the Lindeth Howe on 015394 45759. More information about the hotel can be found at www.lindeth-howe.co.uk

Visiting London? Should you choose a short let apartment or a hotel?

Whether you are planning to visit during the Olympics, booking a city break or need to go away with work, one of the main decisions you’ll need to make when visiting London is whether to stay in a hotel or apartment. As a major world business centre and tourist destination, London has no shortage of options for visitors to choose from when looking for accommodation. The main two options are hotels or short let apartments, the latter of which is fast gaining popularity amongst visitors.

Here is a quick rundown of what needs to be considered when making your choice:

The price. In the main, apartments represent a cheaper option than hotels, particularly if your stay is going to last a number of weeks or even months. Hotels charge by the day, meaning your final bill, after a month-long stay in a capital city, factoring in food and drink too, will be sizeable. Also, in terms of square footage, a short stay apartment is very likely to be much larger than your hotel room as it will feature a living space/bedroom, kitchen area and bathroom.

Flexibility. Hotels can be quite restrictive as you’ll have set menus and times when you can eat and may be bound by curfews. With an apartment, however, you’ll have the freedom to come and go as you please, will be able to host guests without disturbing other residents and can live within a smaller budget as you’ll be responsible for your own food and drink.

Service. Part of the additional cost of a break in a hotel is due to the greater level of service you can expect than in an apartment, such as bed linen being changed on a daily basis, bathrooms cleaned, room service, meal preparation etc. Serviced apartments have a different kind of service; your space will be clean and ready for your arrival and without daily cleaning from staff your stay will feel a lot less intrusive.

Oscar Jackson works with Welby, providers of short lets in London. He commented that “At the end of the day it is down to how you want to spend your holiday. Short stay apartments are increasing in popularity due to the flexibility and freedom that they offer, not to mention lower prices and a more authentic atmosphere of your holiday location.”

There are great times to be had in Cheshire

Cheshire, located between North Wales and the Peak District, is one of the really charming counties of England. Full of places to see, things to do and some wonderful natural sights as well. For a weekend away or even for a holiday, Cheshire is ideal for a nice relaxing break in some great surroundings.

Chester is the main city of Cheshire and is situated on the River Dee. You could base yourself here for exploring the county or if not it is still worth a visit for a day. Chester Cathedral is particularly beautiful and they began building it in 1092, the construction taking hundreds of years. Indeed, parts of Chester are over two thousand years old dating back to Roman times.

The Romans made Chester one of their main bases in England and the amphitheatre is still there and in the Roman Gardens there is a reconstruction of a hypocaust which is Roman under floor heating. Chester Zoo is great and is one of the best zoos in Europe.

In the rest of the county there are many listed buildings to be seen, one of the more famous being Little Moreton Hall near Congleton. Other estates and gardens to visit include Capesthorne Hall and Arley Gardens. There are also many market towns and smaller villages to walk around and plenty of local produce to purchase including the famous Cheshire Cheese.

There is plenty of open space for hikers where they can walk across miles of moorland and pasture land taking in the peaceful serenity of the beautiful countryside around them. Or they can follow one of the many paths and trails, maybe stopping for a picnic along the way. For horse riders there are over two hundred miles of bridleways to ride along.

Discovering the beautiful gardens of England

Visiting the different gardens in England can be a delightful activity and there are many ones that are particularly famous and worth visiting. Going on a tour round gardens can be a fun activity to do as a group and can be a great day out for a family, or a group of friends.

One of the most impressive gardens in Devon is Arlington Court, this is a National Trust property and if you are a member of the National Trust, then you are going to be able to enter for free. If you are not a member, there is going to be a small charge, but it is still going to be quite reasonable.

Inside the gardens you will find around 30 acres of gardens that are mostly informal. There are also many water features here and a beautiful kitchen garden. All of the usual amenities that you would expect at a National Trust property can be found here.

Another great garden to visitors located in Hampshire, this is Hillier Gardens and it can be found near Romsey, a historic market town located to the south-west of the gardens. This garden was founded by Sir Harold Hillier and it contains a spectacular collection of over 40,000 plants, of which over 10,000 are from a different species. There is also an incredible nursery garden and the park is enormous at over 180 acres.

The Eden Project opened over 10 years ago now and it is a vast space which covers an equivalent area of over 30 football pitches. The Eden Project is an artificial biosphere which creates sub-tropical and tropical climates within its walls. This allows a wide variety of plants to flourish which would not usually be found in the UK. This is a great place to come and learn about unusual plants.
